BREAKOUT SESSIONS

Culture of Poverty

  • “Communicating Within a Culture of Poverty” conducted by Amy Yardley, is based on the premise that the only thing people living in poverty have in common is having an income level that qualifies them for services. It explores the types of social classes that exist in this county and how that knowledge is relevant in day-to-day work and explores the unique life experiences of those from generational poverty. Additionally, we will discuss strategies and techniques for communicating and working with families from diverse economic backgrounds.

Your Money, Your Goals

  • “Your Money, Your Goals” (YMYG) is a financial empowerment toolkit that was designed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). YMYG is easy and customizable for front line staff, human resource managers, legal aid workers, and volunteers to guide the money conversation with their clients and employees. Attendees will learn more about the “Your Money, Your Goals” toolkit as well as how to use it effectively.  View the toolkit here.

Behavioral Mapping Through Real-World Examples

  • In this session, we will break down the process for effective use of behavioral insights for program design and implementation, along with effective communication with customers and clients.  We will introduce and illustrate the process of Behavioral Mapping through a series of relevant real-world examples.

What Are Your Teachable Moments?

  • Throughout our professional careers, many of us have learned various skills, attended various trainings, implemented good, great, and less-than-great, best (or, unfortunately, bad) practices, and navigated and resolved complicated dilemmas.  In this breakout session, attendees will have an the opportunity to learn from each other’s successes and failures. Listen. Share. Learn...and have fun!
